When searching for a ticket to Korea, I entered lowest economy class of M which is upgradeable with miles. The website came up with a business class ticket of $3000 which was just 50% more than the lowest priced economy ticket. (M class ticket was $2800 and would also require 50,000 miles to upgrade.) Drawback - I had to transfer in Tokyo and stay there overnight. The 11 hour flight to Tokyo is on a flat bed seat. The cause of the lower price is because the Tokyo-Seoul segment is in economy, but who cares on that two-hour flight.
If you are Delta gold elite or higher be sure to print your boarding pass at home. It includes a coupon for a free drink or non-perishable snack. Saves $7.00 if you don't get your free upgrade. (Upgrades are getting more and more rare unless you are Diamond elite).
If you have the Delta American Express card, take advantage of the Delta Sky Club pass for $25.00. Drinks are free (unless you insist on having premium brands), snacks are free, wifi is free, newspapers are free. If you have a couple drinks and pick up the NY Times or Wall Street Journal you have easily justified the cost. Not to mention it's a pleasant place to hang around. EXCEPT: The Atlanta airport Club by gate B10 is small, I mean TINY! It was impossible to get near the bar for a drink and I had to stand up the whole time. I lasted about 5 minutes before I decided it was better to wait at the gate. If I had to pay to visit this club I would have asked for my money back.
Can't wait to try the new option for non-stop flights from LAX to LHR on Virgin Atlantic. One of Delta's newest partners. Virgin has an option for premium economy which looks like it was designed just for me.
Checked out a lot of possibilities for my flight to Tucson for the Miraval Resort. I am flying into Tucson and leaving from Phoenix. It ends up that the cheapest fare I could find was buying a one-way ticket on United to Tucson and one-way ticket on Delta from Phoenix. I always try to fly Delta (I might make Platinum this year!), but they don't have a non-stop flight to Tucson. It used to be that one-way tickets cost as much or more than a round trip. I guess they have changed.
